Ireland: Plans to convert the Waterside pub in Howth, Dublin, owned by UFC star Conor McGregor, into a boutique hotel has received objections by local residents.
The Waterside Bar was purchased by McGregor in 2022. It has sat vacant since.
An application submitted to Fingal County Council last month reveals plans to demolish the building and construct a five-storey boutique hotel, consisting a ground and first floor restaurant and bar with guest rooms on the upper floors.
Amenities and facilities would include a residents’ terrace area, storage rooms and a kitchen.
Developer G Boppers Ltd alongside architects Cathal O’Neill + Company submitted plans for the site.
Many of the objections focus on “conserving the historic character in Fingal’s historic areas” as well as the proposed terrace.
One objection claims that the development would “impair public amenity and views” and describes the plans as “maximalist” and “ill considered”.
One resident’s objection to the proposed development suggests alterations to the terraced area which would “overhang, abut, and run the full length of my property”, whilst another raises concerns around “potential noise disturbance”.
The final date for observations is 8 Apr 2024.
In addition to the Waterside, McGregor owns two other pubs in Dublin including The Black Forge Inn and The Marble Arch.
