OTH Hotels Resorts has assumed management of The Virginian Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton. This architectural landmark, located in downtown Lynchburg, VA, first opened in 1913 and was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Verus T. Ritter.
After decades of adaptive use, including a period as the first dormitory for Lynchburg Baptist College, now Liberty University, the property underwent an extensive restoration and reopened in 2018 as a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel. Today, the hotel features Art Deco furnishings, original marble and plasterwork, intricate millwork and ornamental iron details. Its 4,000-sq.-ft. Grand Ballroom remains the city’s premier gathering place for milestone celebrations, according to the company.
“As a distinctive luxury property with a rich history and a strong brand affiliation within Hilton’s esteemed Curio Collection, The Virginian Hotel is an exciting addition to our management portfolio,” said Mack Sims, VP, planning & culture, OTH Hotels Resorts. “Building on The Virginian’s legacy of excellence, our team will leverage its expertise in the lifestyle segment to deliver tailored operating strategies, elevated guest experiences, and strong results that ensure its continued success.”
The 115-key property features Skyline Grill, downtown Lynchburg’s only rooftop restaurant, as well as more than 6,700 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. It is located close to the James River Heritage Trail and the city’s arts district.
“We are thrilled to strengthen our presence here with the addition of this iconic hotel in our home state of Virginia,” said Scott McMahon, principal/chief development officer, OTH Hotels Resorts. “This landmark property not only reflects the kind of historically significant properties we’re passionate about managing, but it also speaks to our commitment to growth across the East Coast and beyond.”
