Travel + Leisure Co. has unveiled plans for a Sports Illustrated Resorts location in Chicago, marking the brand’s third property.
“Chicago is where legends are made,” said Geoff Richards, COO, Travel + Leisure Co. “With more than 40 championship trophies across 11 professional and college teams, this city breathes sports in a way few places can match, with a passion that runs through generations of fans. With this new resort, we’re creating a destination where that same championship spirit lives year-round, combining the rich storytelling tradition of Sports Illustrated with the unmatched energy that makes Chicago home to some of the world’s most devoted fans.”
Rooted in the over 70-year legacy of the Sports Illustrated brand and featuring more than 100 magazine covers showcasing Chicago sports, the property currently operates as a hotel in the Loop. Located along the river, just a block off Michigan Avenue, the existing hotel will be transformed into a Sports Illustrated-inspired resort, featuring approximately 250 units.
The resort’s updated lobby will honor the building’s origins as a historic financial institution by preserving its grand staircase, while reimagining the space with a design inspired by the Sports Illustrated brand—featuring imagery and contemporary, sports-inspired design elements. New amenities will include an exclusive owner’s lounge and a signature fitness center. The property will also introduce a lineup of food and beverage venues, including street-level coffee shop, a full-service restaurant and a sports bar.
As a conversion from an existing hotel, the property will remain open during the construction period. Guests will be able to enjoy the resort during its preseason era this winter, with project completion and full brand offering expected in late 2026. The resort will offer flexible, points-based ownership options, with sales commencing in early next year.
The Chicago property will join previously announced Sports Illustrated Resorts locations in Nashville and Tuscaloosa, AL.
